Ocean V Hotel
We chose this hotel for its rooftop infinity pool, set beside a restaurant and bar...
On the white-sand crescent of Grand Baie, on Mauritius's north coast, LUX* Grand Baie Resort and Residences carries the title of flagship for a reason: it is the first resort of its kind in the Indian Ocean and the lead property of the LUX* Collective. The interiors pair British designer Kelly Hoppen with Mauritian architect Jean-Francois Adam, built around neutral tones, natural textures and rooms that open straight onto outdoor living space. Four pools and a beachfront position cover the obvious ground, but the signature is Bisou, the adults-only rooftop restaurant and infinity pool that turns sunset over the bay into the resort's best-known view.
We chose this resort because it commits to a genuine design point of view rather than a generic luxury template, and because it solves for more than one kind of guest without compromise. Bisou gives couples a rooftop escape with its own infinity pool, while Play, the kids' club, and Studio 17, a teen-only space built for kayaking and paddleboarding, keep families occupied at ground level. The two-bedroom Pool Residences and three-bedroom Pool Penthouses come with private pools and butler service, which is a different proposition from a standard suite. Add a plastic-free policy and locally sourced produce, and the resort backs its flagship status with substance, not just branding.
Grand Baie is Mauritius's best-known bay for nightlife, restaurants and watersports, and this resort sits directly on its white-sand crescent rather than on the quieter coastline further out. The beach here is a short walk from the village's shops, bars and boat charters, which makes the location useful for guests who want a resort base without being cut off from the wider bay. The airport sits a little over an hour away by car, the trade-off for staying on the busier, more sociable north coast instead of a remote peninsula resort.

The resort names Bisou as its standout feature, and it is easy to see why: an adults-only rooftop restaurant and bar with its own infinity pool, tapas, cocktails and a direct view over the bay. At ground level, Beach Rouge and Ai Kisu carry the rest of the dining programme, both built around contemporary Asian and Mediterranean plates, with a plant-based Keen on Green menu running through all three kitchens. Six bars spread the rest of the evening across the property, so the choice is rarely about where to eat, only about which mood fits the night.
Most stays here are suites, but the property's real range sits above that tier. Two-bedroom Pool Residences and three-bedroom Pool Penthouses each come with a private pool, and guests booking a Pool Penthouse, Pool Villa or Grand Beach Pool Villa get a private butler as standard. That puts LUX* Grand Baie closer to a villa community than a conventional hotel once guests move up the room ladder, which matters for groups or families who would rather have their own pool and living space than share the four resort pools with everyone else staying that week.
The resort runs a plastic-free policy, with reusable water bottles and locally sourced produce built into daily operations rather than treated as a marketing line. Families should book early for Studio 17, the teen-only space for kayaking and paddleboarding, since it is a genuine point of difference from most Mauritius resorts aimed mainly at younger children. Bisou's adults-only rooftop keeps a separate rhythm from the family pools below, so couples travelling with children can still carve out an evening without leaving the property.
